Why Vehicle Wrap Installations Fail and How to Solve the Problem
Vehicle wraps are quite popular among small businesses because they are one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to do advertising. Properly installer vehicle wraps and graphics with good material are durable and attractive. But the vinyl wrap installation process is comparatively complex. There are a lot of things that could go wrong on the first attempt. Don’t worry, let’s check why vehicle wrap installations fail and how to solve the problem.
Wrong Vinyl Material
Vehicle wrap vinyls vary in quality and cost. Some vinyl is suited for flat surfaces while others conform to curves and corrugations. Applying wrong vinyl can result in bubbling or wrinkling. These problems can distort the graphics and the color. So it’s critical to select the right vinyl for your vehicle.
Bubbling is one of the most common problems of vehicle wrap installation failure. But this won’t be a problem if you select ACME car wrap cause there are air-release channels on the back adhesive. You can easily solve the vinyl wrap bubbles with just a few light presses.
Shrinking is another annoying problem caused by poor material. If you don’t pay attention to this potential risk, the vinyl decals will become ugly with dirty edges a few months after application. ACME uses premium vinyl film which has a low shrinkage rate, so you won’t worry about this problem during our 3~7 years warranty.
Why Vehicle Wrap Installations Fail – Unprofessional Design and Technique
During the design stage of vehicle graphics, experienced designers will take into consideration the convenience of graphic installation and the final effect after application.
Compare the above two pictures, can you tell the differences between them? These two vinyl letterings are in different fonts. The vinyl decal on the left side has begun to lift, while the right side one with a rounded corner won’t have this problem. Vinyl graphics or decals with sharp corners will have a risk of lifting, so in most cases, ACME will round the corners during the cutting process.
Inadequate Cleaning before Installation
Since the vehicle wrap material is thin(0.08~0.1mm), even the smallest particle of dirt will show through the graphic installation. So we need to thoroughly clean the vehicle surface. Check our vinyl wrap installation guidelines to learn how to correctly clean your car.
Inappropriate Installation Environment
Vehicle wrapping should be conducted under dry, clean, dust-free, and preferably indoors in a warm environment( 10℃~30℃). Dust will result in the uneven surfaces of the car wrap and inappropriate temperature will affect the sticky of vinyl adhesive.
Over-Stretching Vehicle Wrap Vinyl
When vinyl material is overstretched, there is a risk of it lifting off the car surface. Because the adhesive gets thinned out in the process, which makes the vinyl less sticky. Overstretch may also affect the appearance of your wrap, such as discolored or distorted graphics.
The best way to avoid overstretch is to measure your vehicle correctly before wrapping it. Please contact us if you don’t know how to measure your car, our professionals would like to help.
Not Post Heating after Installation
One property of vinyl film is that it has a memory to conform back to its original shape. So there may be a lifting problem on the vehicle surface at an edge or in deeply recessed channels.
Post heating of the vinyl in these areas to specific temperatures will help the material to lose its memory and give it strength to stay in place.
